SPANISH VERBS



Definition: The verb expresses an action, event or state. In Spanish, a verb, to be used in forming a complete sentence, must be accompanied by a noun or pronoun that is acting, existing or in a mode of being. (In Spanish, it is common for the noun to be implied without being explicitly stated.)

Examples in Spanish:

The verb expresses action - Pablo echó la camisa a la basura.

The verb expresses existente - Mi madre está en casa.

The verb expresses state of being - Los árboles son verdes.

Types Spanish verbs:

  • Regular verbs
  • irregular verbs

    Regular Verbs
    An regular verb is when verb ending in -ar, -er and -ir.

    -ar verbs (like hablar)
    -er verbs (like comer)
    -ir verbs (like vivir)

    Irregular Verbs.
    An irregular verb is one which does not follow standard rules of conjugation in the different verb tenses.

      to think
    pensar
    to feel
    sentir
    to serve
    servir
    to play
    jugar
    to sleep
    dormir
               
    yo pienso siento sirvo juego duermo
    piensas sientes sirves juegas duermes
    él, ella, Ud. piensa siente sirve juega duerme
    nosotros pensamos sentimos servimos jugamos dormimos
    ellos, Uds piensan sienten sirven juegan duermen
