SPANISH AUXILIARY VERB: HABER




Auxiliary Verb: Haber


Haber is equivalent to the verb have, possess and own. In the modern language Haber is replaced by the verb Tener.
  • Use: One can use it in the construction of compound past tenses such as the perfect tense, It is equivalent of English I have been

Examples:

  • My brother has a lot of money.
  • Mi hermano tiene mucho dinero.

  • My mother has a new car.
  • Mi madre tiene un carro nuevo.

  • Carlos has many cats in his house.
  • Carlos tiene muchos gatos en su casa

  • I have a new Play Station, I am very happy!!!
  • Yo tengo un nuevo Play Station, estoy muy feliz!!!

Tener + que: do something

  • I have to study for my exam
  • Yo tengo que estudiar para mi examen.

  • I have to buy a new math book to study
  • Yo tengo que comprar un nuevo libro de matemática para estudiar

  • I have to eat, if I do not want to die.
  • Yo tengo que comer si no quiero morir

Tener + noun:

  • I am starving.
  • Tengo mucha hambre

  • When I walked by the desert, I was thirsty.
  • Cuando camine por el desierto tuve mucha sed

  • I am very hot, I do not like the stifling heat days
  • Tengo mucho calor, no me gustan los días sofocantes
